LAKE WACONIA PREVIEW - The LWT, one of America's awesomest sprint tris, will happen next Sunday and we want to encourage those who haven't signed up yet to do so at their earliest convenience. In case you didn't know, there are no multisport races in Minnesota on the weekend of July 2-3, so, if you want to get in a race before July 9-10, when your choices include Timberman, Minneapolis, Graniteman Clearwater and Elysian, then you need to register for the LWT.  Online reg. closes on Friday at 11:59 PM. Walk-up registration will be available on race morning ...

"No More Excuses"...

ROOKIE EXPERIENCE RACE REPORT - Dawn arrived in Rochester on Sunday with the faint but unmistakable sound of grossly under inflated knobby tires rolling into Foster Arends park. There was a new nervous excitement in the air as 30 first-time triathletes arrived, most of them right on the 6:30am suggested arrival time. Like the rest of us they will learn to arrive before transition opens at 5:30am and spend two hours lining up shoes, squeezing tires, catching up with friends and discovering that it really is possible to have a productive porta-pottie visit nine times in less than two hours.

Rochesterfest sprint was the first Rookie Tri Experience offered by Final Stretch. It is an attempt to attract new athletes to the sport and offer a welcoming start to what is probably a life-changing day for...

2016: The "Year of The Couple"...

mary_and_pooch.pngROCHESTERFEST TRIATHLON - 2015 was the "Year of The Woman" in Minnesota. More than half of the ladies on Team Minnesota, and many others as well, enjoyed breakout years.

This year--2016--is turning out to be the "Year of The Couple."

Just look at the results. At Buffalo Olympic, for instance, BF-Sean Cooley and GF-Hanna Grinaker placed 2nd overall in their respective genders. A week later at Liberty Half, Hanna took 2nd in the women's race, and Sean placed 3rd for the men.

Last Saturday, Christina Roberts was crowned women's champion at Lake Minnetonka. Her Significant Other Jordan Roby placed 3rd in the guys' race.

And let's not forget that GF/BF Gaby Bunten and Kris Spoth set overall course records at Trinona Sprint on June 12....

Special in Every Way...

jordan_trans.pngLAKE MINNETONKA TRIATHON - Pre-race favorites Brooks Grossinger and Christina Roberts won the 14th edition of this annual classic event last Saturday. Brooks, who has now won this event an unmatched five times, didn't take control until early in the run. Roberts, on the other hand, led from the outset, claiming the swim and run premes in the process.

Brooks now has at least 27 multisport wins to his credit. For Roberts, it was her milestone 10th career win, and her performance last weekend totally suggests that she will win several more times this season. Her clocking - 1:10:53--was the fourth fastest women's time in race history. Only Heather Lendway (2014, 2013)and Cathy Yndestad (2012) have gone faster.

Roberts now owns two of the event''s five fastest women's times.

For two-time (2011, 2012) LMT winner Steve Sander the return to pre-injury form has been an uphill multi-year battle, thus his 2nd place finish last weekend signals the turning of a corner, and Steve couldn't be happier. We're happy for him....

liberty-20.gifED. 1-0-3 for DKT, and Rookies rock the RochesterFest Experience. Words and pics on Tuesday. RESULTS

By Erin Klegstad (sweetsweatlife.com)

Liberty Half Race Report - I ignored the number one piece of racing advice – never use anything new on race day – during my 2016 season opener. And, while I was never planning on “racing” Saturday’s Liberty 70.3 thanks to feeling off (hello, period headache), a brand spankin’ new tri bike and just coming off five weeks of no running, I’d be lying if I said I was pleased with my performance. When you have high expectations of yourself no matter what, it stings a little when you’re not where you want to be.

But, head down, do the work and onward! There are two more 70.3s on this summer’s schedule, and you can bet the results will be better :)  ...
