Lisa Must Have Said Something Naughty...

trinona-girls.gifTRINONA – Lisa Lendway just missed a spot on Team Minnesota last year. This season, though, she’s emerged as one of our region’s brightest stars, winning three of the five races she’s entered thus far, two in CR times.

Lisa’s most recent triumphant happened last Sunday in lush Winona at Trinona VII. Winner of the Sprint race here in 2014, she was hoping for a podium in this year’s Olympic. A win was possible, but not assumed.

Gaby Bunten, who would finish 2nd, and pre-race favorite Suzie Fox, who grabbed 3rd, were the women to beat. In the end, Lendway would claim a 58-second margin of victory over Bunten....

Dylan Dominates & Nelson Repeats...

dylan.gifBUFFALO OLYMPIC – We predicted that Elaine Nelson would repeat as champion at Buffalo Olympic and the lean Duluthian complied.

What we didn’t predict was how hard it would be for her to win. She had to overtake Kortney Haag, who had a huge lead coming out of T2. Unfortunately, Haag’s run split was far from what she had hoped it would be. She was overtaken by the former collegiate runner after mile five of the 10K.

In the end, only 17 seconds separated the two national level triathletes. FYI, the win was the 12th of Nelson’s career and second in three starts thus far in 2015. If her racing volume is sufficient this season—she typically races less frequently than the other top women—we would be surprised if she didn’t receive a TOY nomination....

Minnesota: America's Du Capitol...

nate-and-bennett.gifPhoto - Minnesota men swept the Standard Distance podium. Nate Hoffman (L) placed 3rd. Bennett Isabella (R) took 2nd.

DUATHLON NATIONALS - Matt Payne had planned to do only three dus this season, all of which he's already completed. It appears that his performances in those three races, two major wins and a second, could garner him his second straight US Duathlete of the Year award. Perhaps sealing the deal was his masterful victory at Du National last Saturday. In doing so, he became one of a few athletes in the history of the sport to have won back-to-back national championships....

From Trudles, With Love...

cap-city-speed.gifCAPITOL CITY PREVIEW - Trudles can't wait for next Sunday to get here. She loves her race--Capitol City Triathlon--more than life itself and can't wait to share it with the participants. Working with Jeremy Sartain (coach and bike course guy), Jason Goepfert (run course) and Brendon O'Flatulence (coach), and others, has been a joy and the participants can expect an awesome sprint event, which is the first race in the inaugural Metro Sprint Series.

While the two-year-old race is perfect for newbies and recreational athletes, it nevertheless has drawn an incredibly deep field. In fact, it is expecting one of the best fields we'll see all season.

Leading the way, on paper, for the guys is Matt Payne, who was named USAT AOY HM and USAT Duathlete of the Year in 2014. His challengers will include Kevin O'Connor (two wins last...

Heavily Caffeinated Guy Wins New Bri Again...

Linda-sch.gifPhoto - Linda Schievelbein, 51, flexing after she rocked a 6th place woman's finish last Saturday at New Bri. Have you met Linda? She's a totally cool person.

8th Annual NEW BRI TRI - Devon Palmer collected his 2nd win three starts this season on Saturday at Long Lake Regional Park. His time--1:00:33--was two minutes faster than his last effort here, a victorious 1:02:47 in 2010 and, relatively speaking (because course distances get tweaked often), is probaby the fastest men's clocking in race history. A super effort on a windy day for the heavily caffeinated 28-year-old.

Devon's margin of victory over runner-up Jeff Grebner, who is much older and taller than Palmer, was substantial: 4:53. Greb's 1:05 was a great masters time, though, and Jeff went on to WIN the Buffalo Sprint the next day. Great double for the Greb-Monster.

A guy from Wisconsin--Jason Johnson--grabbed 3rd place in the men's race....
