More Weekend Newsy Stuff...Updated...

neil* LIKE TUMBLING DICE - Angie Hop, 41, and Neil King, 62, lowered their respestive division's course records at Chain of Lakes last Saturday. Hopper took her own year-old women's 40-44 and overall masters record (1:05:15) down by 32 seconds (1:04:43.). King (photo L), a two-time Minnesota Grand Master of the Year nominee, took an even more voracious bite out of the men's 60-64 mark. His brilliant 1:03:32, which landed him in 11th place overall, was 1:43 better than the record he set in 2011.

* SMELLING THE FLOWERS - Cathy Yndestad and Julie Hull continued their early season assault on some of America's most challenging triathlons on Saturday at the iconic, huge and mature (30th annual) Wildflower Half in central California. Both girls performed admirably, with Cathy finishing fourth among amateur females and Jules podiuming (3rd) in her new AG (40-44W). Last month CY and Hull placed 2nd and 4th respectively at the ridiculously brutal, yet totally awesome, Leadman 125 in Nevada. Fellow Minnesotan Angie Schmidt took the masters crown in that one, rocking a 3rd place overall finish among amateur women.

* DAN'S PITHY WORDS - On Wednesday, Dan Hedgecock posted his St. Anthony's race report on his blogsite (danhedgecock.blogspot.com). It's a great read with cool insight into Dan as an athlete and a person. Please check it out: LINKLOGO

* PARTY CENTRAL - TCMC put together an impressive gathering at Crave in St. Louis Park, including a tasty spread of food, great drinks and nice giveaways. While this gathering was open and welcoming to triathletes of all levels, one had to note the impressive showing of lean, fast-looking athletes. - DARIN

* OTHER RACING NEWS - David "DKT" Thompson placed 9th last weekend at Rev3-Knoxville and Julia Weisbecker finished 7th in her AG (45-49W) at St. Croix 70.3.

april* A NOTE FROM SCOTTY - Hey MTN Guys - I was out at the St. George Ironman this past weekend cheering on some true warriors. The worst conditions I have ever seen at an Ironman race and scariest swim I have ever witnessed. They pulled 200 people out of the water as the wind got to 25mph right before the gun went off. The highest DNF rate ever in Ironman and you should maybe reach out to April Morgan (photo L) for her perspective. I can also add any comments to the race recap. A couple of worthy notes to give you perspective:

Men's Pro Bike was 25 minutes slower than last year

Pro Woman bike was 5:57

Male Pro winner time was 9:17

Female Pro Winner was 10:15 I think

I believe there were 7 MN I knew of and 6 made it to the finish line...true warriors.

Thought you would like to know.

Scott Penticoff

ED. April, we'd love to post your words. We hope to hear from you.

* AWESOME IMAGE - Bill Shaughnessy, skilled surgeon, husband to Babs, totally great guy and proud father of 2010 Minnesota Rookie of the Year, Jenny Shaughnessy, sent us an awesome panoramic-ish photo of his daughter winning the Grad School division (and finishing 2nd overall) of the USAT Collegiate National Championships last month in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Check it out.
