Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Duluth, Minn. native Brian Bich crossed the line first at the 28th annual Brewhouse Triathlon on Saturday at Island Lake for his 12th overall title while Elaine Nelson, also of Duluth, racked up her second women's crown.

Bich finished with a time of 1:59:20, 19 seconds, 33 seconds faster than his time of a year ago. Nelson set a course record and her own personal record wit ha time of 2:12:5.

With both Bich and Nelson being Northland natives, they admit nothing compares to racing here in the Twin Ports...

"Part of the hometown. You know, my hometown course. This new venue here is really nice. I just love competing in my hometown race and trying to do well. You kind of get up for it even if it's not your main focus of the year," Bich said.

"It's really nice to have a hometown race where you can sleep in your own bed at night and get up in the morning and just go do the triathlon and go home afterwards without having to worry about a really long drive," Nelson said.

Next weekend, Bich and Nelson will head to Milwaukee to compete at the U.S.A Triathlon National Championships. VIDEO
