Lisa Must Have Said Something Naughty...

trinona-girls.gifTRINONA – Lisa Lendway just missed a spot on Team Minnesota last year. This season, though, she’s emerged as one of our region’s brightest stars, winning three of the five races she’s entered thus far, two in CR times.

Lisa’s most recent triumphant happened last Sunday in lush Winona at Trinona VII. Winner of the Sprint race here in 2014, she was hoping for a podium in this year’s Olympic. A win was possible, but not assumed.

Gaby Bunten, who would finish 2nd, and pre-race favorite Suzie Fox, who grabbed 3rd, were the women to beat. In the end, Lendway would claim a 58-second margin of victory over Bunten....

Fox did not have a good day, and though she was disappointed in her time and place, she reveled in the competition and the friendships. We LOVE that about Suzie. Here’s what she said on Facebook:

…2% sad I had my slowest ever time by 5:33 (is there a such thing as a hamstring transplant) & 98% filled with pure joy to be out racing! Beyond stoked for these 2 speedy ladies on their awesome races, proud of you both! Huge CONGRATS on the win to Lisa Lendway (who skipped her run warm up to bike to her car & retrieve a piece of equipment for me to borrow so I could compete). I love sharing the race course with you Lisa, your energy, positivity, & sportsmanship are contagious! And what you said while we put air in my tires made me smile & laugh out loud the entire race during a disappointing effort, I'm still cracking up!

Lisa must have said something naughty!

In the absence of a pro field, the men’s Olympic race was won in predictable fashion by Gaby Bunten’s “Main Stain,” Kris Spoth, who was the top amateur here in 2014. He had a tad over five minutes to catch his breath and eat stuff before 2nd place finisher / masters winner Lance Leo made his result official. Northfield’s Brian Porter finished 3rd.

We predicted that Matt Radniecki would pick up his first career win in Trinona’s Sprint race, and he did, finishing 50 seconds ahead of Thomas Anderson III.

The women’s sprint was won by Anne Grabowski, whose 2015 resume also features a 2nd at Esprit De She. Like Radniecki, she finished 50 seconds in front of runner-up Jody Quesnell, who is a total HOOT! RESULTS
