Race Coverage

Holden Nothing Back...

snakeSt. Paul Triathlon Coverage - "Ninety-seven bottles of Smirnoff on the wall...97 bottles of vodka," vodkathe woman with the strawberry blond hair sang with a theatrical slur. The other four women she was running with along the southeastern shoreline of Lake Phalen were laughing. The finish line of the 5th annual St. Paul Triathlon was just minutes away but for these girls, the party had begun long ago. They were celebrating life. It was a beautiful day; warm, but not too warm; sultry, ...

but not too sultry. They were moving and sweating and puffing through their smiles. Their heartrates were fittingly elevated.

Life is good.

And so is the St. Paul Triathlon....

Today's Olympic-ish race was won in convincing fashion (1:55:25!) by David Holden. Several runnerminutes passed before the demonically handsome Brent Sinn and rock-star-ish late registrant Rod Raymond grabbed the other two podium spots.

We don't have a picture of David, but he is lean and very fast and doesn't say much. Like the stick-figure runner.

The women's Olympic-ish race was won in dramatic fashion by professional Snake-icologist / rising tri star Katherine Schlaefer (see disturbing photo), who finished just three seconds in front of pre-race fave Jenny Wilcox, who refused to blame her loss on a "bike shoe thing," but was quick to point out that the "thing" was caused by her husband, whose first name may or may not be Woodrow ("Woodrow Wilcox. Sounds rather Presidential, doesn't it?). Wisconsin's Emily Farrell finished in the bronze medal position.
