Even More Newsy & Notesy Stuff...

* 2010 Minnesota Grand Master of the Year, Pam Stevens, 58, turned in yet another brilliant effort last weekend at Chain of Lakes. Pammy finished 5th overall in a preposterously brisk 1:10:16, which lowered her own 50-59W course record by 3:52. Finishing 6th just twenty-seven ticks behind Pam was statuesque math teacher from Sauk Rapids, Amy Woolsey. We're mentioning Amy because, like Pam, she is really cool and we like her a lot....

* MTN congratulates White Bear Lake's Angie Schmidt (photo) and Maple angGrove's Erin Farrens, who raced last Saturday in southern Utah at the St. George Ironman, which is arguably the most challenging 140.6er on the international M-dot tour. Schmidt, 40, rocked a 3rd in the 40-44W category. Her time was 11:54:51. Farren's 11:41:13 was good for 7th in the 30-3W division.

charlie* Don't be surprised if lovely and fast, highly caffeinated triathlete Joanna Hall, formerly of Rochester but now residing in Iowa City, emerges as her adoptive state's premier female amateur multisportswoman before this season is over. If she can do so, she will be supplanting Tami Ritchie, Iowa's top girl for the last three years, who procured a pro license earlier this year. Hall's CR-abrogating performance at Cinco Du Mayo last weekend was, to quote a certain 12-year-old Nazi Zombie killer, "Totally beast!"

* For the last two years, Charlie Roach (photo L) of Lakeville has flirted with a Master of the Year nomination. Perhaps this will be the year he finally lands one. More performances like the one he devonturned in at Cinco Du Mayo will help, as will the relocation of 2010 MOY Greg Taylor, who, apropos of nothing, does a really good Arnold Schwartzenegger impersonation.

* During a recent visit to Devon Palmer's Facebook page we learned that he has grown a Dave Zabriskie mustache, really likes goats and occasionally hangs out with "Apple Hombre." (photo R) Disturbing stuff.

lauren* A 19-year-old girl named Lauren Slagel (photo L) won the Take the Hill Triathlon last Saturday. Ever heard of her? Neither have we. Hoping that she will establish herself among our state's top juniors, e.g. 2010 JOY Kate Lowrey, Luke Gruhlke, Brandon Onopa, Tyler Hecht, et al, and wanting to know more about her, we checked out her Facebook page.

What did we learn on our cyber expedition? Well, Lauren is cute, originally from Dubuque, Iowa, goes to St.Olaf where she studies stuff, likes to laugh a lot and digs the music of Heidi Chung, who we've never heard of, so we went to HER Facebook page and found a video. The song we listened to was called OBLIVION. It was pretty good.

lisa* Sunday evening we received these wise words from Lisa Goepfert:

I had an epiphany this weekend about racing. It happened sometime between when I crossed the finish line and after I ate my wings and drank my beer. When I got done with my race several people asked me how it went. Hard I said, it hurt, I didn
