Saddle Up...

msBy Bonnie Altruism

A colleague of mine asked me why I am participating in the MS150 ride to help fight against Multiple Sclerosis instead of cleaning up trash or building houses as part of a charity fundraiser. I gave him two reasons :

1) I would get stuck in wet cement or fall off the roof.

2) I believe in using what you enjoy to help others.

The MS150 is a way for athletes to get involved doing what they do best: Sitting on their butts for hours, better know as riding a bike....

The chaffing starts on Saturday, June 12 and goes through Sunday, June 13th. MS knows what their riders need- Water stops that include all sorts of goodies are provided every 10-15 miles. This year I am going to try to sleep under the stars during the overnight Saturday night stay. I am sure lots of mosquitoes will get fed as I am not very thrifty in the tent building arena but am excited none the less. So are the mosquitoes.bon

In an effort to help the fight against MS, I am attempting to raise $300. Anyone who donates will receive something special. I am not sure what exactly that something special will be, but I am thinking on it. Ideas are welcome! Perhaps the supporter can write their name on my sweaty jersey?? How about a dead mosquito? Regardless, what they will get is the satisfaction knowing that they gave to a great cause, despite the rider they sponsor's haphazard ability to ride a bike for 150 miles. Any amount of a donation is greatly appreciated. *Or feel free to donate your wonderful Zipp wheels. I would also really appreciate that.

Help our team make a mark against MS!

Multiple sclerosis stops people from moving, and we ride together for Bike MS: MS 150 to make sure it doesn't. MS interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body. Every hour in the United States, someone is diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. More than 400,000 people in the United States and 2.5 million worldwide live with MS.

The National MS Society uses money raised at Bike MS events to fund cutting-edge research, drive change through advocacy, facilitate professional education, collaborate with MS organizations around the world, and provide programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.

If you would like to help out, I would appreciate it very much. Any donation or encouraging word is perfect.
