Slinkies on a Staircase...

Falls Duathlon Coverage - Records tumbled at the fifth annual Falls Duathlon last Saturday like Slinkies on a staircase. If you can think of a better simile, pretend that we used it here, okay?

Great weather may have had something to do with why the times were so fast.

It started with Devon Palmer, who is sporting the "Scruffy-But-Not-Quite-Homeless" look these days. He bracketed his signature bullet-fast bike split with un-signature-isticly brisk run splits, which he totally needed to do because his closest pursuers, 2012 Rookie of the Year runner-up, Brian Sames, which is pronounced "psalm-us," not "saymes," and three-time Falls winner Chad Millner, are fleet afoot guys....

All three of the aforementioned dudes broke Millner's 2011 CR-1:03:10--Palmer by a porky 2:26, Sames by 1:22, and Chad by four seconds.

On Saturday, Jen Scudiero won her third consecutive duathlon. Her victory at Falls clearly demonstrated her emergence as one of our region's best run-bike-runners. She covered the 2M-14M-3M route in 1:12:32, which was more than a minute faster than Julie Hull's 2010 course record, and four-plus minutes faster than the clocking of this year's runner-up, Lauren Slagel.

Jen's name had entered the "Duathlete of the Year" discussion in 2012. Don't be surprised if she receives a nomination this year. We're anxious to see how she fares at Cinco du Mayo and Oakdale.
