Casey's Revenge...

LAKES COUNTRY XIV - If our info is correct, this event will be celebrating its 14th birthday on Sunday. For its first three years, it was known as the Whipple Wave Triathlon, thus its current title has been in place for 11 years.

Like most summer weekends, this Saturday/Sunday has more than its share of multisport races, thus entrant numbers for most events are down slightly. We suspect that the LCT will draw between 350 and 400 participants.

Who will win? Unless the currently un-enrolled Michelle Andres makes the unlikely decision to make the short drive from East Gull Lake to Baxter, we...

suspect that Christel Kippenhan will pick up her 3rd LCT win. Sara Sampsell-Jones, who finished only 14 seconds behind the Teutonic Teacher (Christel is from Germany and teaches at Bemidji State University. She has a cool accent) last year, will turn in a similar effort on Sunday. We also think that Jena Ogston, Sarah Foley and Jody Mullet will fight over the final podium spot.

Two of the other women we expect to excel are Deb Roberts (60-64) and Carol Marston (50-54), who are our picks to win their respective AGs.

Now for the dudes. Baxter's star rookie Casey Miller's Olympic-distance debut at Young Life last week did not go according to plan. We know that Casey is kinda pissed and plans to take it out his tensions, inner-emotions and anxieties on the competition at his backyard race. We think he'll do just that. The other two podium spots, we think, will go to David Lewis and Luke Nelson.

We also forecast divisional wins for Kirk Vesterstein (50-54), a great guy who is totally ripped, and Rick Hans (65-69).
