Making History...

gwennie-swim.gifCOLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — On the heels of her 10th career ITU World Triathlon Series victory two weeks ago in Auckland, 2014 ITU World Champion Gwen Jorgensen leads an American contingent of 15 into this weekend’s series stop in Gold Coast, Australia.

Competing on a standard 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, 10-kilometer run Olympic-distance course, Jorgensen and the elite women are scheduled to race at 9:05 p.m. ET on Friday, April 10 (11:05 a.m. local time in Gold Coast on April 11). The elite men will then race at 12:05 a.m. ET on Saturday, April 11 (2:05 p.m. Gold Coast local time). The races will be broadcast live on triathlonlive.tv, and will air on Universal Sports Network from 2-6 p.m. ET on April 11....

Jorgensen (St. Paul, Minn.) is two-for-two in the 2015 World Triathlon Series, entering Gold Coast with seven straight series titles. Her run split in Auckland was nearly 50 seconds faster than the rest of the field, and her 10 WTS career titles are now double the number of WTS wins from previous record holders Emma Moffatt (AUS) and Paula Findlay (CAN). Jorgensen is reaching new heights in ITU’s modern era of the World Triathlon Series, created in 2009 and preceded by the ITU World Cup circuit, which was previously the highest level of ITU competition. In ITU’s all-time results, Jorgensen trails Portugal’s Vanessa Fernandes, who claimed 20 ITU World Cup titles, and Australian Emma Carney, who earned 12 world cup wins.

Katie Zaferes (Hampstead, Md.) will also compete in Gold Coast after starting the season with two podium finishes, earning the silver medal in Abu Dhabi and Auckland in March.
