Final Stretch Rocks! Possible Minnesota Honorees...

452.gifGREAT NEWS FROM FINAL STRETCH - The MTN Guys want to thank our great friends at Final Stretch for adjusting their 2015 Multisport Schedule. If you check their website (LINK) you'll notice some great changes. You'll see that they will be producing the iconic Gear West Duathlon on May 17. Also, they have moved the North Mankato Tri from late June to early August. The biggest relocation, though, concerns the Waseca 1/3 and Sprint, which had been contested on the same day at the Chisago Half (now Toughman Half) for the last several years. It has been moved to the August 23. These changes will ease conjestion and, hopefully, help races to achieve satisfying attendance levels.

- POST SEASON HONORS - Triathlete Magazine and the ITU have named St. Paul's Gwen Jorgenson as their 2014 female ATHLETE OF THE YEAR. No surprise there, huh? There's a very good chance that Gwen will not be our state's only honoree. Though it won't be known for several weeks, it's likely that some of our state's best amateur tri and ...

Healthy, Hot & Nummy...

bison-chili.gifBy Jessica Cerra (triathlon.competitor.com)

Loaded with chiles, this recipe brings on the heat and lives up to its name. Bison is gaining popularity as a protein source and for good reason. Compared to its counterparts (beef, chicken, turkey, salmon), bison is lowest in fat and highest in iron and essential fatty acids. Try dressing it up with some low-fat cheese or sour cream, fresh cilantro or stone-ground tortilla chips.

Ingredients
16 oz ground bison
1 onion, diced
1 large carrot, peeled and finely diced
2 pasilla peppers*, seeds removed and diced
1 serrano pepper*, finely diced with seeds
1 ½ cups pale ale....

The Celebration Dance...

IM-AZ-swim.gifBy Cathy Yndestad (trigirlcathy.blogspot.com)

It’s been four years since my last Ironman, and as a result, I’m bursting with excitement and pure enthusiasm for this coming Sunday. I haven’t been this excited for a race in a very long time and it certainly helps that I’m feeling healthy, strong and content.  Now it’s simply getting out there, executing my plan and smiling along the way. Pretty simple right? Ha, I’ve been coaching and around Ironman long enough to know full well that unexpected and random things can leave even well prepared athletes looking searching for Plan B and Plan C. The ups and downs of IM day are always part of the challenge,  so I’m doing my best to prepare mentally for that balance as well.

I’ll have several friends and a few of my athletes in Tempe to cheer which just warms my heart beyond description. My friends mean so much to me, and having their support is extremely special. My mom who travelled from Newfoundland will also be their to spectate and experience her very first Ironman....

KONA NEWS & NOTES...Udated...

dan-a-GFT.gifHAWAIIAN IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - We wished we knew the names of every Minnesotan who is racing today in Kona. During the day we hope to learn who all of them are so we can post news on their progress and their finishing times.

There's a "Rule of Thumb" formula for predicting IM finishing times, that is, if all goes well and if conditions and/or course difficulty aren't extreme. It goes like this: take one's best half IM time, double it and add one hour. This formula has been around for decades and may be outdated. It certainly does not apply to pros or the Top Elite Amateurs.

As an example, East Gull Lake's Michelle Andres' half IM PR is 4:37:47, which if doubled and have an hour added to it, would suggest that she was capable of a 10:15:32. Andres has significantly beaten that time twice, going 10:05:30 in a victorious effort at Ironman Wisconsin in 2012, then popping a 9:50:23 at Kona in '13.

For giggles, let's apply the original formula, and the "Michelle Andres Formula" (1/2 IM x 2 + 40 min.*) to some of the Minnesotans who are racing today:
