DULUTH TRIATHLON - Beth Shipston loves Duluth. It was there that the totally pretty, fun-loving single mom from Thunder Bay did her first triathlon--Brewhouse--and was introduced to baby back ribs, to which she has become irretrievably addicted. Her favorite Post-Czar Russia-inspired burrito restaurant is there, too, as is her favorite craft brewer (Fitger's).
She'll be visiting her favorite American town next Saturday. And eight days after that, as well. On Saturday, she'll participate in the inaugural Duluth Triathlon. Two Sundays hence, she'll to the Superior Man as be a part of a relay team.
She didn't want to choose between these first-year half IMs, so she found a way to do both. How cool is that! ...

(Photo - Drew Scott with his living legend dad. Drew, Adam Webber and Dan Hedgecock, though not necessarily in that order, are our picks to podium at Nationals on Saturday.)
USAT AG NATIONALS - The current frontrunners for the USAT Athlete of the Year Award (Male), in our fallible opinion, are Drew Scott, 22, Boulder, Colorado, Adam Webber, 31, Denver, Pennsylvania, and Daniel Hedgecock, 25, St. Louis Park, Minnesota (photo below). And yes, we believe that these amazingly talented guys will, in any order, land on the overall podium at Nationals this weekend. Adam, the amiable 6'5" cop, and Hedge have been there before. Scott, son of Hall of Famer Dave Scott has not, BUT he has been kicking arse, amateur and pro alike, all season long. ...

2012 USAT AG NATIONALS - Nationals is Saturday, and we're peeing ourselves anticipatorily.
Okay, that sentence is clumsy and we totally made up the adverb. Nevertheless, we're sure you caught our drift.
In this post, we will discuss the Minnesota women who will be participating in Burlington this weekend. Even though two-time Nationals podiumer Cathy Yndestad won't be there, we're sending a very strong estrogenic contingent, perhaps our best yet....

Green Lake Preview - Three of America's premier 45-49 males triathletes reside in Duluth, Minnesota. Two of them--Brian Bich and Rhett Bonner--have their sights set on AG podiums at Nationals a week from Saturday. Both have won their divisions there in the past, and Bich made history there in 2011, when he placed 12th overall and became the first 45-plusser in the history of the storied event to break the 2-hour mark.
The third guy is Rod Raymond, and he won't be accompanying his hometown mates, or his girlfriend, for that matter, on their trip to Burlington, Vermont....
A Quasi-Plethora of Cool Stuff...

A quasi-plethora of exciting tri-stuff will take place this weekend. On Saturday, Minnesota's fastest-filling race, for the last three years, that is, will celebrate a landmark anniversary. The Northwoods Triathlon is turning 10! Cool, huh.
On Sunday, another early-filler, the YWCA Women's Tri, which was previewed three days ago, will be "experienced" at Lake Nokomis. And in Spicer, the 9th annual Green Lake Triathlon will happen. That great event, which allows race morning registration, will be previewed on MTN tomorrow. Red Wing's Wingman Tri is also on Sunday, and, like the YWCA event, is full.
Also on Sunday is the inaugural Rev 3 Wisconsin Dells Triathlons, featuring Olympic and half IM races. Minnesota pros David Thompson and Devon Palmer are entered in the half, and we're...

(Cool Photo of Claire - We recommend that Boots and Laura Swartz have a "Smile Off" after Sunday's YWCA Women's Tri.)
Race Preview - The YWCA Women's Triathlon, a glorious demonstration of the Y's slogan: "The Power to Soar," will celebrate it's 5th birthday next Sunday at Lake Nokomis. More than 1000 women will participate.
Though newbies and recreational athletes are the event's Biggest, Brightest Stars, we have not seen an entire list of participants. If we had, we would, in keeping with the tri's focus, have selected some of those folks to write about here. We would have raided their FB pages and given you a peek into their lives, ...
