In these post pandemic years the Minnesota Multisport Honors selectors have debated whether to allow athletes with two, not three or more, outstanding performances to be considered for recognition. Why? Races have fled the schedule in droves. In 2014, there were 84 adult multis in our state. Now there are 31 and that number will most likely shink a bit in 2026 as duathlons become less viable.
Then there is Ironman. Hundreds of our state's triathletes do IM-branded races exclusively, and there are zero such races here in Minnesota. Additionally, the costs of IM-brand events are stratospheric (fees, travel, lodging, food, swag et al), thus many racers limit their schedules to one or two races. We'd like to see those athletes do at least one Minnesota race, but we don't overlook those that don't.
The list of outstanding triathletes with only 2-races (thus far) on their 2025 resume is la "longie". ...
Here, in alpha order, are seven men who are one outstanding erformance away from MMH consideration:
JOHN BODEAU, 31 - Two races. Two fine efforts. A win at Chisago Olympic and a 2nd at Buffalo Olympic.
BROOKS GROSSINGER, 47 - His two races: A 2nd at Timberman Sprint & 11th / 1st AG @ Des Moines 70.3.
COREY NYGAARD, 29 - 1st at Hoot Lake. 2nd at Buffalo Sprint.
YAROSLAV PERVENTSEV, 49 - 1st at One Last Tri Olympic. 2nd at Hopkins Royal.
DAVID THOMPSON, 47 - 1st and Buffalo Sprint and Chisago Sprint.
MICAH WARNING, 28 - Ist at Trinona and Timberman Intermediate.
PRESTON YOUNGDAHL, 34 (photo)- 1st @ Fairmont Sprint. 3rd @ Maple Grove Olympic
