Getting Her Race On

nicole-transition-2After last years race season, a cold winter and several weeks of set-backs, I have been eager to race again. Planning a vacation to visit family, relax and enjoy nice weather seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. Flights were booked and registration for the Lifetime Tri Marquee-International distance was complete. Compared to racing last year, I had a different mindset going into this race. I knew the circumstances would be different and therefore, I decided to use this race as a chance to get back in race mode before the MN multisport season begins, while experimenting with nutrition, fueling and gear. Yes I know you shouldn't do anything new on race day but I took the risk and did it anyways. If anything failed I knew it would be worth the experience and my plan was to have fun regardless. I figured if lessons were to be learned (which several were), now would be the time to learn them! :).....

"Juno" & Retro Shorts...

bette.gifRace Preview - The 30th edition of the Morris Tinman will take place next Saturday. The 1k-30k-10k event is our state's annual outdoor tri kickoff event and we hope it has a record turnout.

The race actually started 31 years ago but the 2008 edition had to be cancelled due to a 14-inch snowdump on the eve of the event. According to Weather Underground the conditions for next Saturday's race will not include snow and temps should be in the low 50s.

Last year's Tinman was won by Ryan DeYounge of Fergus Falls, and Apple Valley's Bette Rowley. Do you know them? We only know them by their race results, so in order to learn more about them, we visited their Facebook pages. We discovered that in addition to being fine athletes, they appear to be very cool  people.

Bette has great taste in movies. We know this because she likes many of the same movies that the MTN Guys like. One of her faves is "Juno," which, in our opinion, was the awesomest movie of 2007....

Race Report - I’ve been a huge fan of the Leadman race concept and brand since its infancy in 2011. I missed the very first race (I was still in a shoulder sling), but I’ve raced in every Leadman event since-Vegas 125, Bend 250, Bend 125, Tempe 125. Each deserving their own background story, but I’ll spare you all that history. Basically the Leadman concept is long swim, longer bike and shorter run with the intention of preserving the body while still providing athletes with an epic long distance event challenge. And you get a fancy belt buckle for meeting specific time standards!  ....

practicing.gifRedneck Crazy, exploits from a marathon in Arkansas

By Angie Hop

“I’m gonna lean my headlights into your bedroom window, and throw empty beer cans at both of your shadows, I didn’t come here to start a fight, but I’m up for anything tonight, you’ve gone and broke the wrong heart baby, and drove me redneck crazy” – Tyler Farr (country and western singer)

In early March I partook in a marathon which was a vacation arrived by participating in a road trip with a destination of Arkansas. Yes, I said Arkansas.   The definitions as labeled by the Urban Dictionary are listed below:  ....
