Former Salukis & Taylor Swift Lookalikes...

crista.gifED. Here's some perfunctory coverage of a couple of indoor triathlons.

LIFE TIME - EDEN PRAIRIE INDOOR (March 9) - The guy who won this event is named Marty Wyland. There's a guy by that name on Facebook, but we're not 100% sure if it's the guy who won the tri, but we think it is. If we're right, we know that he's a former "Saluki," i.e. that he attended Southern Illinois University, and he likes Twinkies alot. He's a computer guy and has a lot of hair. At age 55, he rocked a 13th place overall finish at One Last Tri last fall.

Marty placed 5th at this event last year.

The fastest woman at LTF-EP was Crista Bartholomew. Crista is one of the totally attractive women in the photo (L). We don't know which one. The girl on the left looks a little like Jennifer Lawrence, don't you think? The girl on the right looks like a slightly older version of Taylor Swift...

Group Rides Are Good...

group.gifBy Scott Fliegelman (triathlon.competitor.com)

A group ride can benefit your training and make you faster.

Though triathlon is generally a non-drafting sport, ironically some of the most fun and beneficial training we can do on the bike involves riding in a draft-friendly group. Organized group rides can be found in nearly all active communities, and may be geared toward bike racers, recreational cyclists or triathletes. As a coach, I structure my athletes’ bike training to allow ample time for solo sessions in order to prepare for the specific demands of non-drafting racing, such as time ...

Steve Will Carry His Stuff...

devonP-bike.gifBy Devon Palmer (palmertri.wordpress.com)

After Ironman Canada I’m going south to race Ironman Chattanooga. Why Chattanooga? The late September date is nice, not too late in the year and a few weeks later than Ironman Wisconsin. Quintana Roo is based there so I can stop by and say hi to those guys.

The course looks good for me since it is moderately hilly but not overly technical. Most importantly my professional Ironman Intern, Steven Brandes, is willing to road trip down there with me. He provides high level intern services on Ironman race weekends. He helps carry my stuff. Shares driving duties. Drops me off ...

Rockin' Ruther...

ruther-running.gifED. Yesterday this awesome interview with Rochester pro Ruth Brennan Morrey appeared on triathlon.competitor.com.

By Sarah Wassner Flynn

Long-distance breakout star Ruth Brennan Morrey certainly took a circuitous route to where she is today. First, she was a NCAA Division I soccer star. Then a semi-pro soccer player. Then an Olympic Trials qualifying marathoner. Then a PHD in psychology, a mom of three and finally a professional triathlete. Here, the 38-year-old Rochester, Minn.-native fills us in on her less-than-typical journey to the top of the sport.

Triathlete.com: Tell us about your athletic background. Did you swim or run as a kid?

Brennan Morrey: Nope, I never swam and maybe ran one track race in high school. But I’ve been playing soccer for as far back as I can remember. If I wasn’t out on the field...
