SNEAKY GUY - Unbeknownst to most of his Minnesota peers, BRIAN BICH snuck off to Florida last November, where in addition to watching his seventies-genarian dad play fantasy baseball, he raced at the Miamiman Half Ironman. He finished 3rd overall behind two pros, making him the overall amateur champion. Not bad for a 49-year-old.

Via email, BB had this to say: The race was hot and wet and the swim was long but the race was very fun. Nice to race where nobody knew who I was. I raced very conservatively and felt great all day long!

According to our records, the victory was (at least) #46 of Bich's storied multisport career.Forty two of those wins were recorded after the millennial turn, making him the winningest Minnesota amateur male in this century.

Other competitive milestones include eight MMAs (with nine, only Tony Schiller has more awards among Minnesota's men), three USAT AOY HMs, 2008 US Master of the Year (several HMs, too)....

Bich's Miamiman performance, which took place after the 2015 MMA Presentation, will apply to his 2016 competitive resume.

SHE'S PREGGERS! - The MTN Guys heard through the grapevine (Todd White told us.) that ELAINE NELSON is pregnant. We contacted her for confirmation. She sent us this email:

Hi MTN Guys,

Yes, it's true. Baby #2 will likely be coming in Sept. If I do show up for any races this summer, it will be "for fun" (it always is, right?). Everything depends on how the pregnancy goes....

I'll miss the Tri crowd this year, but hopefully I'll be back in 2017.

Elaine's absence in 2016 will free up one spot on Team MInnesota, which is great news for some of her talented peers.

For most of us, though, the news is bittersweet. While we're totally happy for Elaine, we are going to miss her like a banshee this summer. She's one of our favorite people, and like fellow Duluthian Brian Bich,is a truly class act.
