dani-boat.gifDIMPLES GIRL - Second-year pro DANI FISCHER, originally from Rochester, now residing in Indianapolis, raced at Puerto Rico 70.3 last Sunday. Fischer, the (amateur) US Duathlete of the Year and AOY HM in 2014 and Elite DOY in 2015, raced solidly in the first two phases but lost a huge amount of ground in the run, which is very, very uncharacteristic. Dani is one of the fastest runners in our sport. Off the bike, she appeared to be headed for a Top 5, but ultimately had to settle for 9th (4:42:31). We've asked Dani, who we miss immensely, to write a race report. RESULTS

UPPERS & COMERERS - Who is going to be the next big (amateur) star here in Minnesota? Who is going to give MATTHEW PAYNE a run for his money in '16?  ...

brian-tiger.gifKRIS SPOTH?

Sure. But he won't be the only one. There's a couple of young guys that we haven't talked about too much on MTN, but could well become competitive on the National stage this year.

Who are we talking about? STEVE MORRIS and BRIAN GORMAN (photo R).

We love the fact that Morris has already broken 2-hours at Olympic distance and has demonstrated star potential at half and full IM. He's only 24.

Gorman has been somewhat off the radar because most of his racing has been in collegiate and ITU competitions, which are hard to evaluate. In his two regional efforts last year, he recorded a win at Lake Marion and won the collegiate category at Life Time - Minneapolis, where his time (sub-2-hours) would have tied him for 2nd in the amateur elite race. We hope that the 23-year-old UM grad enters more regional events this season.
