It's a Former Zygote!

Peanut WienekeIsn't it cute? It's a fetus. It started as a zygote, then became a blastocyst, then an embryo. And now, it's a card-carrying fetus. Is that cool, or what?

This 12-week old humanoid fetus / future triathlete resides in a lovely uterine condo, which is owned and operated by Maria Vu Wieneke, wife of MTN's Darin Wieneke, a recent escapee from Alcatraz.

An official name has yet to be selected--we recommend Charlemagne for a boy or Murgatroid, if it's a girl. For the time being, he/she is referred to as Peanut Wieneke

When I arrived at the transition the wind was already getting strong and the temp was telling me this was not going to be a comfortable race.

Bonnie Clamping

This season I was selected to be the assistant coach for the Lakeville North and South High schools Lacrosse team and I have to say it is an amazing sport. Essentially, Lacrosse involves several players using a stick with a hooked top end and net attached for the purpose of catching a ball then cradling it while the player runs the equivalence of the length of a football field towards the opposing team's goal, protecting the ball through within the net, doing maneuvering footwork, tossing the ball back and forth to other teammates and eventually slamming it into a goal net smaller than the size of a soccer net at full speed while eluding the defending team's players and goalie. Other than that it's totally easy.

A Cool Weekend Image and Other Stuff...

Rochesterians enjoying world class caffeinated beverages at Burly's, a totally cool and funky coffee house in Cannon Falls, after Saturday's Falls Duathlon. (Front row from L - Joanna Hall, Mederic Hall and Super Mario Minelli. Back row - two other totally cool people.)

* MTN congratulates Minneapolis's Pam Nielsen, who was the 10th amateur woman--20th woman overall--to cross the finish line at the inaugural St. George (UT) Ironman on May 1. Her time on the absolutely brutal course was 11:37:05. Only two pro women managed to better 10 hours and Wisconsin's Jackie Arendt, who placed 4th at the Chisago Half last season, had a brilliant race. She was top female amateur--7th woman overall--in a time of 10:36:23.

* St. Paul pro David Thompson placed 6th on Sunday at the 30th edition of Escape from Alcatraz. The men's field--led by Hunter Kemper--was arguably the deepest in the event's history.

* Later this week, MTN's Darin Wieneke will post a report on how Minnesotans fared at Escape From Alcatraz.
