G-Man Coverage & Chaska Preve..

g-man-swim.gifGRANITEMAN – CLEARWATER – When we first looked at the winning times at G-Man Clearwater we assumed that Nicole Heininger’s 1:09:49 had crushed Sarah Mercer’s 2011 CR (1:13:25), and that Casey Miller’s 1:05:57 was the second fastest men’s time in the five-year history of this course. (Steve Sander’s 2011 course best was 1:05:18.)

And though we later learned that the bike route was altered and shortened by a mile or so, we remained impressed with the winner’s finishing times, which when adjusted for the additional distance, would have been faster than the winning times in 2010, 2012 and 2013. And in Heininger's case, her adjusted time would even have bettered Mercer's 2011 mark.

For the elite sophomores, it was Miller’s fourth career win, and the fifth for Heininger, who was coming off the biggest victory—Lake Waconia--of...

her career. For Miller, it was his second straight triumph. He also came out on top at Average Jo in Perham on June 29.

Stellar efforts were also turned-in by lapsed triathlete, Erik Henrickson (2nd – 1:06:14), and 2013 G-Man Series champ and current points leader, Larry Hosch (3rd – 1:06:21), who has a golden retriever.

The same can be said for women’s runner-up Cheryl Zitur, 49, whose resume includes wins at Chase the Police (2013) and Buffalo Sprint (2014), and sisters Greta Danielson, 21, (3rd), who is a two-time Minnesota Junior of the Year, and Paige Danielson, 17 (4th), who appears to be the current JOY frontrunner. CHASKA PREVIEW – The 11th edition of this great event will take place next Saturday. Participants can expect scenic, challenging courses and great amenities. Last year, race founder/director Michael Beckman had his head shaved on-site for charity. The rumor that he will get a “Brazilian” this year are unsubstantiated.

Who are our picks to win at Fireman’s Park next Saturday? We are unwilling to pick a male champ yet because we think that he hasn’t registered yet. As for the women, we are so danged impressed with the emergence over the last two seasons by Lisa Lendway (photo), that we are picking her win, and do so impressively, like she did at Trinona Sprint last month.

Check the event WEBSITE to see if registration is still open.

UPDATE: We just learned that two-time Chaska winner and CR-holder Kyle Serreyn has enrolled. Yes, he's our pick to win on Saturday.

There are a plethora of the great multis this weekend, all of which are worthy of your entry fee. If you choose not to participate at Chaska, please consider these other events:
