King Boreas Winter Tri co-director Jeremy Sartain called us recently to let us know that Jan Guenther has registered for Sunday's Run-fat bike-ski race at Lake Phalen on Sunday. Very exciting stuff. Jan, now 56, is the single most decorated female summer multisport athlete in Minnesota history. And triathlon is not even her best sport. Nordic skiing is.
She'll go into the KBWT, which is also the USAT Winter Triathlon National Championships, as a podium favorite. Here's why:
Tri & Du Creds -
- She's won an unprecedented 16 Minnesota Multisport awards, three as Triathlete of the Year.
- She a two-time Ironman Wisconsin winner (2002, at age 42, 2009, at age 50!)
- She's won more than 40 tris and dus since turning 40. (Unprecedented)
- 2000 USAT Master of the Year
Nordic Skiing - ....

Waseca in Back!

Waseca Triathlon is back and better than ever with new courses and discounted pricing for youth participants!
From Final Stretch
We are thrilled to say that the community of Waseca came together to make this triathlon possible in 2016. We strive to breathe new life into this fantastic triathlon and build on the astounding engagement we have seen from Waseca so far. First and foremost our goal is to be as inclusive as possible and make this a community and family oriented event.
To do this we have eliminated the 1/3 Iron Man Course and added a Super Sprint Course. This course has been carefully created with new triathletes in mind, including a 200 yd swim, 6mi bike, and 2mi run. We also hope to get the youth of Waseca involved as well, so in addition to the new shorter course, we are also offering a youth discount that grants reduced pricing for all participants under the age of 19 that register for the Super Sprint or Sprint Course. The Sprint Course will be a little longer than in the past with a 1/3rd mile swim, 16 mile bike and a 4.2 mile run. As always, we will have our Kids Tri for youth ages 5 – 12....

ED. On December 20, Completetri.com published a story called "10 Great Destination Triathlons." Here are the three awesome races from our region that were highlighted:
Brewhouse Triathlon (MN)(photo). In early August, the Brewhouse Triathlon provides a one-of-a-kind venue for a triathlon: The beautiful port city of Duluth, the scenic North Shore of Lake Superior, and the Minnesota Northwoods. While there are other great races in this part of the country (such as the Northwoods Tri in Nevis), we went with the one that has been around for the longest time. The Brewhouse starts in pristine Island Lake Park, takes cyclists through some nicely paved and low-traffic...

Inaugural Bertram Blast Race Preview - This is my prescription for the vast majority of us who find that we are spending way too much time in front of a screen. Granted exercise is like sex: even when its bad, its good; but some is much more restorative than others. Lately I’ve found that time spent among the trees is far better for me physically and mentally than out on the roads. In terms of health, higher...
