I did my best to answer all your Canada questions on twitter. I learned so much from those simple, primitive people and their untamed country.
Whistler is gorgeous. The lake for the race was really nice. The bike course is pretty neat, some serious climbing but no super scary descending and the hills were not super steep.
With the bone bruise on my heel in early June I lost about 3 weeks of running and then it took a couple more weeks of half to one mile runs before it felt normal. My longest runs were three miles. I knew I would not be running the marathon. The only circumstance under which I would finish (by run/jog/shuffle/walking through the marathon) was if enough other guys dropped out so that I was in 8th, the final paying position. This is an odd mindset to have. Mostly I just wanted to practice...

SPICER — Here are the numbers for the Green Lake Triathlon Sunday at Saulsbury Beach:
66: degree Fahrenheit at 8 a.m. start.
165: number of individual finishers for the Sprint Course (1/4-mile swim, 13-1/2-mile bike, 3-mile run).
47: number of individual finishers for the Olympic Course (3/4-mile swim, 22-mile bike, 6-mile run).
19: total number of relay teams (16 in Sprint).
3: Number of first time triathlon winners.
“This is crazy,” said women’s Sprint-course champion Emily Allen (photo L), 29, of Bloomington. “I’ve been first in my age group before, but this is the first time that I’ve won a triathlon overall. Did you think an internal auditor could have so much fun.” ...

GREEN LAKE TRIATHLON XI - Three of the four overall champs recorded their first career wins this morning in Spicer. How cool is that! The Olympic-ish race was won by Rookie of the Year frontrunner Nick Nygaard, whose first W comes after two runner-up efforts (Timberman and Brewhouse Sprints), and Sheena Duaer, who lost her "Victory Virginity" with a 6:08 margin of victory over successful veteran Jen Neuman.
The other rookie winner was Emily Allen, a bubbly 29-year-old from Bloomington who looked great in her orange-rimmed sunglasses. She finished 2:45 in ahead of Willmar's Tracy Sik (pronounced "Sheek" - photo L from Bost Marathon) for the victory.
The men's sprint winner was David Phillips, whose resume now boasts four career Ws.

WINGMAN VI - Possible Master of the Year nominee Chap Achen collected his second Wingman victory this morning. He also won this race in 2011. The women's winner was Janneke Sobeck, who finished 2nd here in 2013. There were 97 finishers. RESULTS

MILWAUKEE — Amateur triathletes Heather Lendway and Steven Mantell bested a field of nearly 3,100 athletes from all 50 states and Washington, D.C., on Saturday at the 2014 USA Triathlon Olympic-Distance National Championships.
The race was part of the two-day USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships weekend at the Milwaukee Art Museum and Discovery World, featuring a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run. A record-breaking field of nearly 3,100 athletes crossed the finish line as part of the event.
Lendway (St. Paul, Minn.) successfully defended her title, posting a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes, 7 seconds to top the women’s field for the second straight year. With the overall win, Lendway also claimed the female 30-34 age group title....

USAT OLYMPIC NATIONALS - At 9:22 AM it appeared that Madison, Wisconsin's Mark Harms won his 5th career AG national title in a blazing 1:51:44. MATTHEW PAYNE (1:56:04) and MARCUS STROMBERG (1:57:32 - Olympic PR) placed 4th and 7th respectively in their AG (35-39), a division with 359 participants.
9:55 AM - We just learned that Duluth's ELAINE NELSON has finished 7th in the women's 35-39 AG. Her time was 2:12:22. Her 38:14 run split appears to be the fastest in her division.
10:00 AM - Maple Grove's KORTNEY HAAG has placed 9th in her AG (35-39) in a time of 2:13:21.
10:01 AM - East Gull Lake's MICHELLE ANDRES has earned a Team USA berth with her 12th place AG (35-39W) finish. Her time was 2:14:31.
10:05 AM - It appears that honorary Minnesotan GREG TAYLOR (Yankton, SD) has just won the men's 60-64 AG. His time was 2:09:05, which was four minutes faster than Jim Bruskewitz' AG winning time here in 2013....

RACE REPORT - Chisago Sprint was one of the few repeat races on my calendar this year so I was excited to see how my race would compare to last year. Heading into the race I set my “goal” (expected result range) a little higher than Lauren Goss’s professional course record. When I mapped out the course though, it was more like a 21.4 mile bike verses 22 miles. If this was truly the case I knew if I had a good race I could be within that mark.
Race morning weather was ideal: a little on the cool side, great for drinking some nice hot coffee. Dad (Stopwatch Greg) and I arrived fairly early per usual so I could grab my packet, get body marked and setup in transition the way I like with plenty of time to spare and time for my body to wake up.
The half-iron folks were heading out at 7 but the sprint triathletes hung out until the first half-iron swimmers got to shore. Gear West teammate David Thompson was first out of the water with a small pack not too far behind....
