Registration for several 2016 Minnesota multisport races is already open. Recently, we received an email from Amy Dettmer. Do you know her? She's really nice. She is also the co-director of the Timberman Triathlon.

Registration is open for the 2016 Timberman Triathlon to be held at Sugar Lake Lodge in Cohasset on July 9... The key elements that have made Timberman a popular Minnesota destination race will not go away for 2016, but will be enhanced by a few changes, with a new race distance and prizes for local winners plus a special promotion through December 31.

In 2014 and 2015 the Timberman was nominated a Top-5 Minnesota Athlete’s Choice race. According to co-race director Alan Dettmer, “With over 60 multisport events a year in the state to be named a top favorite by athletes shows we have a great venue, great volunteers, and a great race. We see athletes return year after year to swim in crystal clear Sugar Lake and bike and run the awesome county roads near the resort.” In 2015 the Timberman was a test site for the timing company, JMS Racing Services, to use disposable timing chips. JMS Racing Services timed over 60 events including USAT Age Group Nationals in Milwaukee and USAT Collegiate Nationals.

2016 is a year of changes for the Timberman. There will be three race distances instead of the traditional two. The new race distance is the super sprint with a .15 mile swim, 5.5 mile bike, 1.5 mile run. Co-race director Amy Dettmer says, "This distance is perfect for the first timer or younger athlete looking to try the sport of triathlon." Also new in 2016 are prizes for the fastest local (Itasca County) men and women in the sprint and international distances.

As a special promotion through December 31, the Timberman is offering $5.00 off the registration fee for first time racers or athletes whose last Timberman was before 2010.
