Newsy Notesy Stuff - On Wednesday MTN asked Patrick Parish to comment on his participation in next weekend's USAT Duathlon National Championships. We received these words via email yesterday:
I typically enter a couple duathlons as dress rehearsal for triathlon season. This year, my plans are only slightly different. I signed up for Duathlon Nationals on a whim after a couple races with the Run N Fun guys this Spring went better than expected and rekindled my love for racing. With great events and competition in the Twin Cities area, the travel is hard to justify, so I'm chalking it off as an impulse buy. My rationalization is that since I'm likely to face up to four nationally-recognized duathletes in any Minnesota race, an extra practice session might help before hitting the local circuit. I'll have one of my TCMC teammates as a travel companion, so the pace will be honest and good times shall be had throughout my first trip to Arizona.
Thanks for your support!
Patrick
P.S. It would behoove you to double-check the registration list. I believe there's an entrant in the the thirty-something mutant ninja turtle category that deserves some MN Tri News lovin'....

OHP Indoor Tri #3 Coverage - Jeff Hunsaker is a tri newby who is a totally nice guy with a great sense of humor and wears designer eyeglasses. Last Saturday evening he quaffed several pints of Stone IPA and ate more than half of an extra large BBQ chicken pizza. On Sunday morning the groggy and cotton-mouthed Hunsaker drove to OptumHealth Performance's training center in Eden Prairie, where he participated in his first indoor triathlon, a feat he finished, though not without a preponderance of backstroking. After the event he drove home and, too ravenous to wait for his oven to heat up, nuked the remainder of yesterday's pizza, which he consumed while listening to "Infinite" by Eminem.
Jeff plans to make his outdoor swim-bike-run debut at the inaugural Blaine Triathlon on May 19....

Event Coverage - On April 1, 66 athletes got "chicked" at the Life Time-Woodbury Indoor Triathlon. The event was staged at the Woodbury club, of course, which is across the street from a Tires Plus and not far from Sam's Club and a relatively new Super Target. It's a great place to work out before and after you shop for stuff.
We digress.
The girl who chicked the entire field two Sundays ago was Amber Sauve. Your guess as to how her last name is pronounced is as good as ours. It could be "Saw-Vee." Or maybe "Saw-Vay." Probably neither.
According to her FB page, Amber has many children, is pretty and, as is apparent in the photo (L), sometimes goes topless at the lake. Her run-bike combination at Woodbury was impressive and she earned a three point win over Jim Bena and Katie Penvose, who tied for 2nd. Sauve unashamedly admits that she never misses "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and attends Eagle Brook Church....

Leadman 125 Report - This event was one for the memory books. A group of us from MN decided to sign up for the event about a month ago. A fantastic reason to get a group together in a fun city and bank a quality spring training event in the process. Peer pressure at its finest!
Initially I thought the biggest factor for the swim would be the frigid water temps. Early reports from the week put the water near 60 degrees. Since I

Race Coverage - We hope you read yesterday's "Epic Newbie" post. If you did, you'd have a sense for how goshdarn epic the Life Time Leadman Epic 125 really was. Hellaciously tough courses. Even hellacious-er conditions (55 degrees with major chop; unrelenting 25-30 mph winds with 50+ mph gusts; 85 degree heat). This totally hard, yet cool and wonderful, event defied exaggeration.
Epic events give birth to epic stories, the embellishable stuff that legends are made of. Let's tell a few now, shall we?
* Matt Russell, the handsome bald pro who finished 2nd on Saturday, has a smoking hot South African girlfriend. Gillian Foreman is a triathlete and an actress who has a very charming accent and has been in several movies, most notably "Ocean's 13." This means that she got to hang out with George Clooney and Matt Damon and Brad Pitt. As she waited excitedly for her boyfriend to finish, a fellow spectator giddily asked her (we overhead this): "Isn't Brad Pitt like the handsomest guy ever?"...
