Mind-Clearing Magic...

runnershigh.gifBy Melissa Dahl (nymag.com)

It is something of a cliché among runners, how the activity never fails to clear your head. Does some creative block have you feeling stuck? Go for a run. Are you deliberating between one of two potentially life-altering decisions? Go for a run. Are you feeling mildly mad, sad, or even just vaguely meh? Go for a run, go for a run, go for a run....

Hokas, Tart Cherries & Jumping For Joy...

erin-leap.gifED. We think that every triathlete should be like Erin Klegstad. She's a gusto-grabbing life embracer, as her awesome blog clearly instantiates.

Here’s what’s been up in April… along with longer + brighter days, the light fog that’s hung around me for a big chunk of the past couple years has started to lift, finally.

Excited about

Representing HOKA ONE ONE as a flyer ambassador! In 2014, coming off a stress fracture and on coach’s recommendation, I (reluctantly) bought my first pair of Hokas. I thought they looked ridiculous and a bit too moon boot-y, but then I ran in them – and, have been running in them ever since. Nine pairs of Cliftons (and one pair of Conquests) later, I’m pumped to be representing a shoe I love that’s changed my running and allowed me to run some crazy mileage injury-free!  ....

Wade's Words...

Cinco Du Mayo Race Report - I will start this race report with an apology. Why you ask? Well, because this is my first official race report and I've done everything in my power to avoid long form writing since college. I am very proud of that streak and while I would prefer to keep it running, I have been asked to write about the Cinco Du Mayo Duathlon. Streak dead. If this was for anyone else I would politely decline, but it's for MTN and they have been nothing but nice to me. MTN also does an excellent job of promoting triathlon in Minnesota and is a great resource for triathletes. I appreciate all of their kind words and if I have to break my streak to return the favor, then I will.  Now, back to that apology.  I just want to apologize in advance for what might turn out to be a boring read and may result in spontaneous naps. I do, however, want to be clear though, I am not opposed to naps.  Well now that’s done, let's do this.

My first idea for this write up is to talk a bit about the day before. So, if you're still reading this, then you'll now learn that I am typing this Friday nightwhile sitting in an ice bath. Now, for a few things mixing around in my head. ...

Falls Du Race Report - Hey there! Just popping in to do a quick recap of a quick and fun race last weekend!  There are always good stories that come out of races and this one definitely had a few highlights!

The Falls Duathlon in Cannon Falls had been on my radar for the last couple of months, but I held off registering early due to the inevitably variable and sometimes dicey weather this time of year.  I had heard reports of rain, wind, and even sleet at this race and for a warm weather-loving girl -- this sounded miserable! Running in the wet and cold? Tolerable. But biking? No thanks!  However, the weatherman predicted the rain would hold off the morning of the race and in a stroke of luck, I found out a few days before that several friends were planning on going, including RBM!  Fantastic!  With no pressure to win (with RBM there is no competition!), I thought it’d be a lot of fun to see some friends and see what my legs could do in a short race!  And in even better luck -- my mom, sister, and two nephews could make it to come spectate! ...

Lucky Number Belts & Big Dogs Barking...

Lisa-sombrero.gifCINCO DU MAYO - Lots of cool stuff happened on Mother's Day eve at the Cinco races.

First let's mention the double dippers. Lisa Lendway (photo L with daughters Hadley and the other one) and Shelley Ostrander became the first women to have won both the long and the short course duathlons. Lisa won the long course du this year and the sprint du, in record time, no less, last year. Ostrander, who won this year's sprint, won the longer race in 2014.

For Lisa, it was her 9th career multisport win. For Shelley, it was her 4th.

Ostrander's Winner's Circle companion on Saturday was two-time Junior of the Year nominee Mitchell Clayton, whose mom hates it when people call him Mitch. Mitchell is cool with either. Clayton, 19, has raced twice already this season and had won both times. Last week he was victorious at the Morris Tinman. FYI, he placed 3rd here in 2015. ...
