swim startIM CDA: Decompressing With Bonnstetter, Morgan, Sartain & Hoffman

By Darin Wieneke

I recently learned that more than 70 Minnesotans ventured to Idaho on June 26th to compete in Ironman Coeur d'Alene. While Minnesotans generally travel well to Ironman races, 70 participants is an extremely strong representation at a race approximately 1355 miles away. So why did so many Minnesotans travel to Coeur d'Alene? I was not sure, so I checked in with a number of the participants (Katy Bonnstetter, April Morgan, Jeremy Sartain and Laura Hoffman) to see why they decided to make the trek and how their experience went....

A Four Shirt Morning...UPDATED...

jesse(Facebook photo - A Top 10 finisher at Lake Minnetonka last month, Jesse Kling is enjoying a great tri season. He placed 3rd overall at Chaska this morning.)

Chaska Tri XIII - Nick Madrinich is probably the fastest Serbian/Swedish male triathlete in all of Carver County! This morning he won his hometown race--the Chaska River City Days Tri--for the 3rd consecutive year. Additionally, he managed to lower Chris Leiferman's 2008 course record by 12 seconds.

The women's race was a tight battle between Tracy Serreyn and Jamie Blumentritt, with Serreyn prevailing by 21 seconds.

Three divisional course records set smithereenisized by Tom Pettit, 42, who finished 2nd overall, Michael Danielson, 47, who lowered his own previous 45-49M's best, and Nick Vanduzee, 67, who also owns this event's 60-64M CR.....

70.3(Photo - A bunch of Sanderses and a dog.)

By Nate Sanders

Kansas 70.3 Race Report - It was the end of December and my brothers & I were all hanging around the La Casa de Sanders for the New's Years Eve/Kansas 70.3 signing party. We had been talking about signing up for a 70.3 for a few months and it has always been a goal of mine to complete one. So after my brothers completed the Boulder 70.3 last yr. I knew I had to do it.

At about 10pm, just 2 hours before the price increase....we all signed up for the Kansas 70.3. We toasted with a shot of POM juice and the race prep, strategy and smack talk began. Would Erik beat his big bro Nate this year? He came in 2nd to Nate at the Boulder 70.3? The training commenced &..

New Races, Old Races & Other Good Stuff....

andres* HENRY'S TRI - Saturday's inaugural Tri For a Cause in Crosby promises to be a goodie. Despite the crowded weekend schedule, the event, which was founded by a really nice guy named Henry Praska, should pull about 125 participants.

The clear favorite for the women will be Michelle Andres (photo L), who has won three of the five multis she's done thus far in 2011. The win would be the 10th of her impressive career.

Picking the men's winner is a bit tougher. Based on current enrollment, our pick is Greg Rhodes, who has raced sporadically in Minnesota since 2006. He did race twice last year and his results were impressive: 2nd at Lakes Country and 6th at Brewhouse. However, we wouldn't be surprised if guys like Grand Forks' Sean Cooley, Nevis' David Lewis and Duluth's Rod Raymond or Marc Malinowski decide to pop over to Memorial Park on the western shore of beautiful Serpent Lake on Saturday. If this happens, Greg may have to settle for a ....
