Ironman 70.3 Pan American Pro Championship, Monterrey, Mexico!
4th Overall 4:14...something.
Very talented and deep field & super important race for me to set up my season.
Swim: Started out by digging myself into a hole with a slow nonwetsuit swim in second to last place. But, the best thing one can do is have acceptance of 'what is', take a deep breath, stay task focused, and fight until the very end.
Bike: 2:18. Gradually gained time, but didn't catch anyone until the very end, making for a very lonely first 3 hours.
Run: Fastest half marathon of my life (1:18:04, 5:55/mi ave) dating back to 2001 when I ran 1:18:21 at age 23 at Grandmas half, without a swim or bike beforehand. :) At age 41, we can say things like this that we are proud of. I felt like I was floating along for 13 miles....

FALLS DUATHLON RACE REPORT - Ahhh, first race of the season done. And with it comes a little relief! There are usually some unknowns going into the first race in months, but there was quite a long list this time around:
* Not racing for 5 whole months(!)
* Coming back from an early January injury
* Recovering from a killer February cold and recent cranky hip
* Riding my tri bike a total of 3 times outdoors prior to race day
Not to mention a very recent coaching change! I had two weeks of a new routine under my belt and it mostly consisted of backing off and flushing some fatigue out of my system. This would truly be a test! ...

RUTHER ROCKS! - Playing serious catch-up after the swim, classy Rochester pro RUTH BRENNAN MORREY threw down on the competition with a 2:18:32 bike split and an amazing 1:18:04 run, which outsplit the next fastest female runner by 3:01, yesterday at Monterrey (MEX) 70.3. Against a world-class field, she finished in 4th place in an outstanding 4:14:09, which ...

OAKDALE DUATHLON - Racing conditions were ideal yesterday at Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Sunny, with a cloudless sky and light breezes. The temp at the start was 60, climbing only to 66 by the time the last finisher crossed the line.
Simply put: Saturday was a "great day to be alive and outdoors."
From a competitive standpoint is was a great day for all except the early leaders, both of whom were favored to win. WADE CRUSER was on record pace when he flatted eight miles into the bike leg. SUZIE FOX's instincts got in the way during the bike leg, resulting in a quickly corrected wrong turn, then missing a turnaround, which she also corrected in short order. (FYI - This year's courses were tweaked.) When she got back on track, though, she flatted. By that time NICOLE HEININGER, was leading and had the pedal to the floor....

GET IN GEAR HALF RACE REPORT - And just like that, the 2017 race season has started. The Hot Dash 10 mile has been my season opener the past two years, but my legs weren’t quite race ready a month ago. So we switched it up and instead I raced Minnesota’s annual rite of spring: the Get in Gear half marathon. I was pretty stoked, too, because most of the course – river road along the Mississippi between Minneapolis and St. Paul – is my regular long run route and my absolute favorite place to run.....
