As Rare as Steak Tartare....

adOne Last Tri VII Preview - This is not actually the final outdoor triathlon on Minnesota's 2012 multisport schedule. MSU-Mankato has it's fall tri coming up, and there may or may not be a race in Mayer, too (Royals Tri). It's name--One Last Tri--is designed to entice those who have either already packed up their gear for the season, or are seriously considering doing so, to get out there one more time.

Last year this race attracted a record 600+ entrants, which caused some parking issues. Good news: those issues have been resolved and parking will not be a problem this time around....

finishSquare Lake Triathlons - The Square Lake Short Course Tri will celebrate its 13th anniversary on Saturday; the Long Course race, half IMish in length, will turn 12 on Sunday.

Do you know what the various race records are? We do. We nerdily keep track of that kind of stuff and we're happy to share it with you here. Let's start with the Short Course, okay? Remember, this is Triathlon, and all records are to be swallowed with many grains of salt.

madisonIronman Wisconsin XI - Approximately 300 of our state's triathletes are enrolled in Sunday's Ironman Wisconsin. Perhaps ten times that many Minnesotans will also be on hand to spectate or volunteer. There will definitely be a special Loon State vibe in Cheesehead Land on Sunday.

That is so cool. Goosebumpley cool. Time to breathe into a paper bag, diaper-up and make some outrageous predictions.

Typically, we do a lot of name-dropping, but for this preve we are leaving most of the names out. Why? 'Cuz two participants asked us to do so, saying that it would freak them out if we said nice things about them, or predicted that they would turn in fast times....

ST. CROIX VALLEY TRIATHLONS - Twelve years ago, Final Stretch, a longtime producer of running events, staged it's first triathlon in Hudson, Wisconsin. The St. Croix Valley Sprint.

Though the event was an instant success, FS waited until 2008 to produce another multisport event. That year, they acquired the popular Liberty Tri and inaugurated the Falls Duathlon. Today they stage eight multis, more than any other Minnesota event management company. Their contribution to the multisport lifestyle in our region has been humongoid....

Hedge, Boots & PP Among Hy-Vee EA Faves...

hy veeHy-Vee 5150 U.S. Championship - The second deepest elite amateur field of the year (behind USAT Nationals) will be on hand for this weekend's 5150 EA National Championship in Des Moines, Iowa. On the men's high-end side, the race will feature the Top 4 finishers at AG Nationals, and yes, we believe that these guys, all of whom will likely be considered for 2012 USAT AOY, will sweep the podium+one. Will the order be the same as at Nationals? That is the question. We hope not.

2012 USAT AG Nationals - Men

1. Brian Duffy (PA)

2. Drew Scott (CO)...
